SANTA CATARINA – GASTRONOMY
The Catarinense gastronomic options are as varied as its population's ethnic diversity. German, Italian, Portuguese and typical rural dishes, among many others, can be enjoyed in the many different regions, often in typical environments like mountain resorts, Italian cantinas and restaurants with beaten earthen floors along the coast. There are food festivals where you can take part in cold climate activities, such as picking apples and grapes, and enjoy the locally produced artisan products, like wine, beer, jams, preserves, salames and sausages etc. The Catarinense coastline is the biggest producer of oysters and shellfish in Brazil and attracts visitors to the marine farms and restaurants along the shore, which serve these irresistible mollusk dishes and other seafoods.
