Go first to the Largo do Pelourinho, declared by UNESCO as South America´s most important colonial complex. Its eight neighboring streets are reminiscent of Brazilian life during the 16th and 17th centuries. Then, take the Lacerda elevator (a landmark of Salvador) down to lower part of the city to find the ―Mercado Modelo‖ with its numerous art, handicraft and souvenir shops. At last, feel the faith of a very religious people – visit the Nosso Senhor do Bonfim church and the renown São Francisco ―golden church‖, considered the most beautiful baroque building in Latin America.
