The New Consumers: Green Teens



It is not only adults that are concerned with environmental and social issues. Teens are showing their appreciation for the environment.

A recent US report provided important figures that include that 38 per cent of all online teens admit concern for the environment, while 15 per cent are hardcore Green Teens.

What is a Green Teen?

A Green Teen is a popular and influential teen concerned about environment that is actively involved with online media and communications. Green Teens are leaders among their peers - but more importantly, they are opinion leaders.

They are also consumers that respond well to online marketing.

As a result of online advertising, 29 per cent of green teens report having made a purchase in a traditional store during the past 12 months and 19 per cent have made a purchase online. This is a little higher than that of teens overall, of which 22 per cent have made an in-store purchase and 13 percent online, as a result of online marketing efforts.

It is obvious that teens cannot be overlooked when marketing and designing green products. They are another reason marketers need to tune into consumer attitudes about the environment.
